I usually begin with, "Who lives at your house?"
This begins the dialog of piecing together a child's story.  Clinically, it's called a genogram.  Common culture calls it a family tree.
I call it - His Story.
His story of a child's life. This phrase has been echoing in my mind.  A play on words from that familiar Christmas carol.




But it's also found in scripture:

He who has an ear, let him hear.  Matthew 11:15, Mark 4:9
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches.  Rev 2:7

As the Israelites returned to the land of their ancestors, some of them could not identify their lineage because they couldn't find their family records. "They thoroughly searched for their family records but couldn't find them." I've never really thought much about guns, other than teaching my boys not to play with pretend guns when they were little. My husband and father are not hunters.  We don't own a gun.  My husband was raised a pacifist and we presently attend a peace church.  In fact, if you break into our house, you will probably be met with a very sharp Cutco knife.


Guns haven't interested me much.

A few months ago, what I heard concerning this person were "throw away" words.

Such a privileged part in our society...It's expected.  It's considered a right.  


As Christians, we would be fooling ourselves if we said we were exempt from expecting comfort.  Comfort wraps itself around theology and vision we have as individuals and as  corporate Churches.

Getting rid of clothes that didn't fit
Pulling some clothes I really have no business wearing any more
Making room for fortysomething clothes that are much more comfortable.

I didn't start out intending to grumble, but I quickly found myself there.

A full blown pity party erupted.  I might as well have had cake, candles, and balloons.

Then I went to church tonight and heard a message about water skiing.

I read this the other day, and the statement by Jesus wrung in my ears.  


....I have not come for the healthy or the righteous, but the sick and sinner......


It solidifies the internal struggle I have with status quo Christianity....

Some days this is challenging, knowing the answer to their deepest needs is Christ himself.
Or on days when they are overwhelmed and hopeless, and I simply want to pray with them.

In memorizing Philippians, I have been resting on the third verse, and applying it.


Every time I remember you, I will thank God for you.                      


Principle: Every thought you have about another person, thank God for them.


I've been implementing this for two days now.  It's powerful.

There is this saying, "When God closes a door, He opens a window."  That is a true, accurate statement.  I’ve also heard the statement "When God says “no”, He has a better plan for you."     
To be honest, I don’t like cliches. Trite, quip answers don’t fit the bill for not-so-trite circumstances.

We have this verse displayed on one of our living room walls, and it caught my attention this afternoon as I walked by it.
Acknowledge Him, He ….makes….paths…..straight.
